Saving the Sacred Kabayan Mummies

Discovering Archaeology published an article in the July/August 2000 issue by Robert Locke on attempts to preserve the Kabayan mummies from further deterioration. The article is notable for the inclusion of five new photos of these hard-to-see mummies.

Photo 1: The cover of the issue features an infant.

Photo 2: The Table of Contents spread includes an excellent large photo of 6 Kabayan mummies in their small wooden coffins.

Photo 3: The opening pages of the article contain a large photo of one mummy in a burial cave.

Photo 4: Inside the article a highly tattooed Kabayan mummy is shown.

Photo 5: The last photo features a local villager carrying a mummy from its cave as the first step towards preservation.
