The
Museum of Man in San Diego probably has more (and different types of) mummies on display than any other museum
in the United States.
Included in its permanent exhibit are Peruvian
mummies, Egyptian mummies, and the controversial Lemon
Grove mummies (stolen from a cave in Mexico by teenage
graverobbers).
The Ancient Egypt and Mummies display on
the second floor is a little tired these days, sequestered in a corner of
the second floor.
The last time I visited (August 2000), a number of
display labels were missing, and the exhibit felt neglected.
