Completely remodeled a few years ago, the Egyptian exhibit has never looked better. Gone are the pale green walls and awful lighting that made everything ugly. Now,  well-designed and well-lit displays have been installed.

Major features are:

  • two reconstructed burials (one from the First or Second dynasties, and one form the Middle Kingdom).

  • the funerary chapel of Hetepherakhet from the 5th dynasty

  • many stele (or memorial stones) from Abydos

  • many human mummies, including three children's mummies and at least five adult mummies

  • a number of animal mummies including a baboon, a dog, a fish, and a reconstruction of an ibis catacomb
