The
Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst in Munich, Germany, is a small,
almost forgotten, museum in its present location.
Essentially two large
rooms, the
museum has a stunning assortment of Egyptian art. Visitors should be
forewarned, however, that many of the displays did not have any labels
(not even in German) so that it was difficult to determine the details
behind the display. When I visited, the museum appeared to be in a transitional phase, and
proper labeling may be forthcoming.
The
collection includes many beautiful coffins, some striking Roman era mummy
masks (including a plaster crocodile mask), and mummy of a young Roman
child. Particularly notable are some Coptic textiles and some Egyptian
statues created in Italy during the Roman empire.
