Louisville: The
Joseph A. Callaway Archaeological Museum at
the Southern Baptist Seminary (2825 Lexington Road) features rare
Bibles, a copy of the Rosetta Stone and a 2,700-year-old mummy (free,
M-F 8-4:30, 502/897-4141, handicapped accessible). Thank you, Sundea
Murphy. (Follow-up note: TerishD writes: This museum "is more
of a college resource than an actual museum. The people at the Baptist
Seminary were very friendly...[and] had no resistance to allowing me to
check out the key, and no mention of a donation was made. My children
and I were allowed as much time as desired to look over the exhibits.
The mummy is treated with respect." Thank you, TerishD.
The Louisville
Science Center (formerly the Museum of History and Science)
has science, math and technology exhibits--and a 3,400-year-old Egyptian
mummy named Then-Ho Tep. But please note that the mummy is sometimes
taken off display, stored for a while, then put back out again so you
may want to contact the museum or to visit the website at http://www.louisvillescience.org/
to determine the status. TerishD writes that even if the mummy is not
available, the museum has a good exhibit of animatronic dinosaurs.
