The MUMMY TOMBS TOP 10!

Bolzano: The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is Ötzi the Iceman's new home and well worth a visit even if you have to drive up from Rome or other parts of Europe.

The MUMMY TOMBS TOP 10!

Pompeii: Archaeological Site of Pompeii is the home of some definition-bending mummies made of plaster. Though their bodies themselves were not preserved, their shape and form was imprinted in the surrounding hardened ash. These tragic human molds were filled with plaster and are displayed throughout the ruins of Pompeii.

Rome: Vatican Museum. (Chris Breemer wrote: "There's a good-looking mummy in the Vatican museum, can't remember any details, it was about 12 years ago") This prompted a visit from correspondent Larry Riggs who believes that this might be "a princess of the 21st Dynasty, whose hair is colored with red henna." The hair color, at least, has been confirmed by another correspondent, Richard Dozier. If you visit the Vatican and see the mummy, write with details. Further information about the Vatican museum is available at this site.

Turin: The Egyptian Museum's exhibits are stunning: beautiful artifacts--and many mummies both of humans and animals.  Many displays are in poorly-lit hallways, but if you are passing through northern Italy, you won't want to miss this museum.
