Ramses II
by
T. G. H. James,
a
former Keeper of Egyptian Antiquities at the British Museum, is
a beautiful book about one of the most famous pharaohs of all.
Ramses II
was a warrior,
builder of many great monuments, and a role model for successive
pharaohs. The book provides a history of Ramses II: his accomplishments
and his legacy. Photos feature his many buildings: Karnak
in Thebes; his father's funerary temple on the west bank of the Nile
at Luxor, his own temple (called the Ramesseum); and the temple of
Abu Simbel. Also included are maps and blueprints which help readers
picture the layout of the structures.
This is not a "mummy book," though, so be forewarned that
there are no photos of the mummy of Ramses II.
The book (10x14 in size and stuffed
with beautiful photos) is a great companion to James' Tutankhamun. I
highly recommend it. The book would also be appropriate as a
photo and fact resource for students in grades 5 and up.
