Chronicle of the Pharaohs : The Reign-By-Reign Record of the Rulers and Dynasties of Ancient Egypt

by Peter A. Clayton

Chronicle of the Pharaohs : The Reign-By-Reign Record of the Rulers and Dynasties of Ancient Egypt by Peter A. Clayton, an English Egyptologist, is the first book that I know of that narrates the lives of the pharaohs in detailed chronological order.  Pharaohs are organized by time period and each has a biographical account. Some are given one or two paragraphs (early pharaohs, for example); others get 10 pages (like Ramesses II). It is the perfect reference book for anyone interested in the lives of the pharaohs. By the way, many mummy photos are included.

A well-designed book (published by Thames and Hudson, a top-notch company) with 350 illustrations (130 in color). 224 pages.

Table of Contents

The First Pharaohs (Early Dynastic Period)

The Pyramid Builders (The Old Kingdom)

Chaos and Rebirth (First Intermediate Period, The Middle Kingdom, and the Second Intermediate Period)

Rulers of an Empire (The New Kingdom)

The Weakening of Pharonic Power (The Third Intermediate Period and The Late Period)
