 Essentially an encyclopedia of Egyptian
pyramids, THE COMPLETE PYRAMIDS
has two brief
introductory sections on the Egyptians' beliefs about death and the
"discovery" of the pyramids by graverobbers and early antiquity
hunters. Then Lehner moves onto the bulk of the book: his catalog of the
pyramids of Egypt, from Hierakonpolis to Meroe. This is the section of the
book that makes it so valuable for any student doing research: each
pyramid is discussed in detail, usually with
maps and architectural plans as well. A final section explains how the
pyramids may have been built and their importance to (and effect on) the
surrounding area. The book is full of photographs and illustrations (over
550 in all), with 83 in color. The book concludes with a number of
appendices including information on visiting the pyramids.
