Perl's Mummies, Tombs and Treasure: Secrets
of Ancient Egypt is an impressive well-written introduction
to Egyptian mummies. The book teaches older children about a range of
mummies from the earliest accidental sun-dried ones to the best ones of
the 21st Dynasty and beyond. Perl is a clear writer and she explains the
history, the process, and more important the rationale of mummification
in ancient Egypt. The only problem with the book is that it was first
published in 1987--and many discoveries
have been made since then. Still, this is an excellent book to have on
hand in a classroom library; the basic information is still accurate.
With many black-and-white photographs, a bibliography and index.
