Mummy by
James Putnam
is the Eyewitness Books' approach to learning about
mummies around the world (though the emphasis is definitely Egyptian). The book is worth
buying for the color photographs alone--they are first-rate, and every page is filled with
them. They will fascinate even the youngest mummy-lover. Older readers will also be
intrigued: many of the photos are quite unusual and/or rare, so visually this book has
everything. What's missing is enough text to explain the photos. Yes, there are generous
captions. But the brief text on each page will leave readers wanting more
information which
is not necessarily a bad thing. Ideal for beginners, but fill in with more detailed books
quickly.
