The
Best Book of Mummies by Miranda Smith is a
great introduction to mummies in ancient Egypt. In 33 well-illustrated
pages, Steele takes readers into a secret tomb, discusses the pharaohs
and the Egyptian people, and then turns to his
main task: the mummymaking process. One of the best sections is called
"A grisly job" which depicts the stages of mummification; it's
not particularly grisly at all the way it's illustrated and contains
just enough close-up drawings to explain how the Egyptians preserved the
dead. A glossary is included. Excellent for young researchers.
