Egyptian
Mummies: People from the Past
by Delia Pemberton. A
good introduction to the subject--and written by a member of the British
Museum's education staff. Readers will meet seven mummies; among them are
Ginger (a 5,000 year old farmer), Ankhef (a Middle Kingdom official), Katebet
(a rich lady from the New Kingdom), a sacred ibis (one of the millions of animal
mummies), and a student from Roman Egypt (a mummy with a painted portrait
mask). Both
photos and drawings clearly enhance the text. Teachers
can't go wrong with this book. Its compact 46 pages would help any
middle grade student understand the concept and the process of Egyptian
mummification. Highly recommended!
