Cat Mummies by Kelly Trumble. A detailed account of the subject with beautiful illustrations...why were cat mummies made? (And if you read closely, who killed them). It's not an "easy read," but any child interested in cats and mummies will find this a fascinating book. I especially liked the story of the poor Roman soldier who accidentally killed a cat (considered sacred at one point in Ancient Egypt)--and was killed himself for his offense. Well-researched.
