The
Egyptians by Gillian Chapman is an
outstanding craft book for projects on ancient Egypt. Mixing photographs
and cartoons, Chapman presents some background information but much more
in the way of activities. Kids learn how to make shabti
figures, hieroglyphic messages, nested mummy cases (very clever), two
games (Senet and the Snake Game), a cat mummy (without a real cat), a
pharaoh's necklace (also clever), a papier maché hippo, canopic jars
and more. There's a nice glossary as well to explain terms that young
readers may not know.
